Way back in the 1960's a few guys from Romeo, MI who liked thrashing themselves on motorcycles by riding in the woods started a club known as the Bent Wheels. That passion grew and solid tradition was built. The Bent Wheels Competition Club still thrives today. Over the years the BWCC has sponsored numerous ISDE Qualifier, National, and 2 day Enduro's. Our club also puts on Hare Scrambles, Endurocross and non competitive events with the Cycle Conservation of Michigan. The last National Enduro put on by the BWCC was in 1994 ("We don't need no stickin maps") and our last Enduro was in 2001 ("The Chicken Run"). The BWCC is back in the enduro game and in partnership with M.O.R.E.(Michigan Off Road Events) and the (F.E.S.) Family Enduro Series Inc. We proudly announce the First Annual Bent Handlebar Classic. This event will be run out of our club grounds in Rose City, MI on June 20 and 21, 2009. There will plenty of free camping and parking on site. Local motels are just minutes away from the event grounds. Please see flyers for details.
Saturday June 20th is the day of the Bent Handlebar Family Enduro. The event starts at 11:00am with a riders meeting at 10:00am. It will be a easy day that is perfect for kids, women and riders who prefer a slower pace. The Saturday event is perfect for vintage bikes, trials bikes, mini's etc. There is even a a buddy class where small kids can ride two up with an adult. Younger riders can also be accompanied by a mentor or helper rider that is not scored. lt. We will make every effort to give awards to 100% in all classes for the Family Event. The entire event will be run on private land and will be divided into three separate sections with a restart at each section. The use of timekeeping equipment is not required to ride this event. Riders under the age of twelve will remain on Bent Wheels owned property, riding only two of the three sections. All others will ride a separate parcel as section #2. The only requirement for the FES riders is to pay a sign up fee but no AMA or AMA D-14 membership is required. Riders 12 and up will be required to have a current ORV sticker on their bike and also be under 94db (some vintage rules allow for higher sound limits)
Sunday June 21st is the day of the Bent Handlebar Classic. Start time is 9:00 am with the riders meeting at 8:00am. Sign up can be done in advance by pre-registration or on Saturday and early Sunday morning. This is a points paying event for AMA District 14 and District 15. All riders will be required to have AMA membership and also membership in one of the AMA Districts. There will be 6 separate timed sections, all on private land. This is a restart format event which really means that no timekeeping is required. Timekeeping is allowed and route sheets will be provided, but not necessary. Motocross bikes are allowed and encouraged. Each bike will be required to have a current ORV sticker (other states are recognized) and meet current AMA sound limits of 94db. Highlights of the event include a 1.2 mile groomed motocross course (Riders will start that section on the gate!) and a new parcel of over 300 acres of virgin wooded rolling land. Of course other sections are included that some of you may know from the past. This is a perfect event for first time enduro riders, as there is a mix of everything. Just the opporitunity for you MX guys to show us how fast you really are...... Bark buster (handguards) are highly recommended!
